Hamish's response really brings to mind the German proverb: if you're sitting down to the table with 10 people and a Nazi and no one does anything, you're sitting with 11 Nazis.
Some writers I follow (and pay for) on Substack have already moved elsewhere and I've cancelled several subscriptions that are due to renew "soon" -- including yours, but if you decide to stay, I will renew (March 3rd), or switch to Venmo. It's definitely frustrating after several writers I support moved here from Medium (when they paywalled everything) and some came here from Patreon too.
I guess "hate sells" and capitalism means platforming hate these days, especially in Silicon Valley :(

Sometimes it is hard, Marissa, in the face of palpable hate, to stay cool and focused. My question: what does success, in this situation look like?

So the best way to stop Nazis is to allow them to do whatever they want?
I hope Hamish never has children. Can you imagine? "My child stole a cookie and to stop them from stealing I gave them the whole cookie jar full?"
He could have been honest and said it's just about the money and because he's a Nazi now, too.
Darn tooting there's tools to deal with this better than doing nothing at all. I discuss opening up their application programming interface (API) as a path toward letting everyone fine tune moderation to personal taste. https://the-oracle-of-technocrat.ghost.io/does-nazi-political-speech-have-a/
