I thought the inability to embed here on substack was on the Twitter end...?

I keep waiting to hear that because of the changes at Twitter there has been a major hack and denial of service. The loss of security there should be a major concern.

In case you need a plan B (post twit*), you may want to check out Spoutible... it's definitely not bird land

I’ve really enjoyed my move to Mastodon. It took a little while to get used to it, as it’s not as adrenaline-filled as the Twitter algorithm. But the federated structure makes it so much less vulnerable to being destroyed by one billionaire. Start with Mastodon.Social, which is the biggest instance. Follow some hashtags that interest you. When posting anything, make sure to include hashtags, to ensure you reach your audience. The number of users is smaller than Twitter, but much higher engagement and fewer bots and trolls.

I was on mastodon for a few months and it was ok, but kind of a pain in a lot of ways and I had to keep moving servers as server owners would quit or move around, not sure what a replacement would be if there will even be one. I came back to twitter and staying for now as there is a pretty good AI community there, we'll see what happens

Really, really hoping that Mastodon will be The Place.

"It used to be that in the middle of a breaking news event, you heard everything on Twitter first."

The primary reason I USED TO use T was to follow the many people I enjoyed hearing from. The secondary reason was just as you stated - to get real time info on some US breaking news which my local news channels here in South America don't follow.

I held on until I needed to get out before my own sanity was threatened. I still miss what it was - but I'll get over it.

Thank you, Marisa for validating my suspicions about Twitter. I started a Substack account last summer and my plan was to use the bird account to drive new subscribers to it. After getting close to 4 thousand followers there was no increase in traffic to my posts. Not because they didn't want to but because they were unaware it existed. Many hours spent walking in the wrong direction. Visiting Twitter now is like waking to an apoplectic landscape filled with cerebrally mutated inhabitants. I stay on only for a few close friends and we watch the social media drama unfold. I see the Twitter Bird Logo is back. No doubt Elon's warped sense of humor playing senseless mind games to tickle his ego. Stay well and fight the good fight.

Bummer. Did not know we could not embed Tweets. Not good and not especially smart either! As much as I loathe Twitter it seems like a bad thing for it to fizzle this way.
